Born
on 18th December, 1949 at Shahzadpur, District Ambala, Sh. Surjit Singh had
his schooling at his birth place and passed Matriculation Examination from
M.R.S.D., High School in 1965. In 1970 he graduated from Punjab University,
Chandigarh. He obtained degree in laws from the same University in 1973. He
joined Himachal Pradesh Judicial Service in 1974, after passing the
competitive examination and had the distinction of standing first in the
said examination. In June 1984, he was promoted to the H.P. Higher Judicial
Service and posted as Special Judge (Forest), Shimla. He remained posted as
such till 1988, when he was appointed full fledged District & Sessions
Judge. He held various positions, including the post of Registrar General of
High Court of H.P. from 2001 to 2004. On being elevated as Judge of the High
Court, he assumed the office on 11.4.05. Retired
on 16th December 2011.
